Inner peace refers to a state of being mentally and spiritually at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of stress. Every Human being on this planet whether he is rich or poor, black or white, proletarian or bourgeoisie, king or beggar, Muslim or non-Muslim, is in search of peace. The important element which a human needs the most for living is mental peace. Allah says:
“So (do) not weaken and call for peace while you (are) superior, and Allah (is) with you and never will deprive you (of) your deeds.” (Surah Muhammad 47:35)
Inner peace lies in two major things: in serving the humanity and in the remembrance of Allah. Islam has put great emphasis on both of these things. That would not be wrong to say that Islam is the religion of peace and tranquility. Islamic teachings lead to the inner peace if people follow them as per to the guidance of Quran and Sunnah. The pursuit of inner peace is more important than the search for happiness or success. Allah says:
“Those who believed and (did) not mix their belief with wrong, those, for them, (is) the security and they (are) rightly guided.” (Surah Al-An`am 6:82)
Inner peace is the state of calm you feel within yourself. We currently live in a society where the noise of our thoughts and our anxieties tend to consume us daily. In such a fast-paced world, inner peace can be a struggle to achieve. We’re continually awaiting the next thing in our lives, and that can be one of the aspects that disrupt our inner calm.
Here are some ways to Achieve Inner Peace and Tranquility:

The world around you could be stress-inducing and chaotic, but if you feel calm, you might be experiencing inner peace. It’s an achievable state of mind that has more to do with your mind than what’s happening in your daily life. When it comes to achieving inner peace, the first step is coming with a good attitude. If you’re cynical, or even too sceptical, it will block you from reaching this calm state of mind. You need to bring an open mind before you can have inner peace. Allah says:
“Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching and argue with them in a way that is better.” (Surat al-Nahl 16:125)
As human beings, one of the greatest desires in life is the search for inner peace. Inner peace can only arrive when we reach a position where we know the reality of our life and the Majesty of Allah. Everything that is done without seeking the pleasure of God will just go, but that which is done seeking His pleasure and His Grace will endure and live on. This changes our perspective on life completely. Allah says:
“Not they will hear therein vain talk but peace. And for them (is) their provision therein, morning and evening.” (Surah Maryam 19:62)
Life seems much more than these petty issues. One learns to forgive those who hurt them, cherish those who love them, and subdue the ego. One who understands the greatness of Allah will find peace knowing that everything else is petty and small. If we are thankful, Allah will give us more and more of everything that we have and even more. He will keep increasing us, and it will also be in the form of our tranquillity.
Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran in a way:
- “…and making peace is better.” (Quran 4:128)
- “If you are thankful, I will increase you.” (Quran 14:7)
- “Peace, a word from a Merciful Lord.” (Surah Ya-Seen 36:58)
- “In the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest?” (Quran 13:28)
- “There is no compulsion where the religion is concerned.” (Quran: 2:256)
- “Muslims learn from the Quran that God’s objective in creating the human race in different communities was that they should relate to each other peacefully.” (Quran 49:13)
- “Everything on earth will perish. But the face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honor remains.” (Quran 55:26-7)
One of the best roads to tranquillity is being content with Allah. It is in understanding that no matter what happens to us, Allah’s plan is best. When we are content with Allah’s decree, we will work hard, we will do our best but be content with whatever result comes our way. True inner peace is found by submitting to Allah, and while this has been taught to us and repeated to us constantly. Allah says:
“And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks, I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless, verily! My Punishment is indeed severe.” (Surah Ibrahim 14:7)
In essence, a Muslim is one who is under the refuge and peaceful shade of Islam. The Quran also asks that all of mankind embrace peace and be messengers of peace throughout the world in today’s volatile world. We must need to keep faith in Allah no matter what because He is the only entity who has solutions of every difficulty. Allah will take out people from the depths of darkness to the light of peace and harmony, the only condition is to have strong faith in Allah and to trust Him in every situation. Allah says:
“And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden – its width (is like that of) the heavens and the earth prepared for the pious.” (Surah Al Imran 3:133)
Inner peace is having no worry, anxiety, greed, hatred and any desire. Allah’s decree is Divine, and not always understandable to us in the here and now. Only when we look back do we understand how Allah’s plan was perfect. Allah’s plan for us is the best for us, and knowing that makes life incredibly peaceful. May Allah make us people who are tranquil in life, and tranquil in death.
