The Holy Quran is a book which by sound reasoning bestows insight upon man. It shows the right path to man by giving the accounts of the Prophets and the nations. It motivates him through parables, exhortations and warnings. The Quran is one of the best ways of knowing how a person can fulfil this purpose of pleasing Almighty Allah and giving meaning to his or her life. The Quran is a guidance, evidence, and discrimination between right and wrong and a manifest light for the people to guide them aright and help them meet their needs. Allah says:
“And Allah increases those who were guided, in guidance, and the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for recourse.” (Surah Maraym 19:76)
The Quran bears verbal witness to the sovereignty of God. It describes the great, hidden, determinative force at work throughout the cosmos with great force and clarity. It gives us definitive information on those metaphysical realities, which elude the hand and the eye. Not only does it spell out the facts of existence, but it also builds up an astonishing gallery of word pictures. Thus, it brings a hitherto unseen world before our very eyes. Allah says:
“Indeed, you (can) not guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He (is) most knowing (of) the guided ones.” (Surah Al-Qasas 28:56)
Allah has laid down solutions to every human problem in the Quran. The Quran shows us where the strength lies, giving us a handhold on a rope that never breaks. Without this, we have no real support in life. Moreover, only through attachment to God can human beings retain their hold on the cord that binds each to each.

The Quran is a scripture which gives us definite knowledge concerning the realities of life. Those who have tried to understand the universe without recourse to the guidance of God will be akin to those blind people who try to find out what an elephant is by touching the different parts of its body. In the absence of true knowledge, their conclusions have been like those of a man, fumbling in the dark, and just hazarding wild guesses as to the nature of his surroundings, without ever truly understanding it. Allah says:
إِن تَحْرِصْ عَلَىٰ هُدَاهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي مَن يُضِلُّ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّاصِرِينَ
“If you desire [for] their guidance, then indeed, Allah (will) not guide whom He lets go astray, and not (are) for them any helpers.” (Surah An-Nahl 16:37)
The Quran presents to us the knowledge about God. It not only speaks about His existence but also paints an incredibly vivid picture of the Being who sustains and directs the universe. Not only does it tell us about the Hereafter, but also describes the Day of Judgement so graphically that its horrors become deeply etched on our consciousness. The supreme status of the Quran as a source of knowledge entails that in all matters on which the Book of Allah has given guidance. Allah says:
“Whoever does good, it is to their benefit. And whoever does evil, it is to their loss. Your Lord is never unjust to His creation.” (Fussilat 41:46)
The Quran explains that it is God alone who sustains us throughout our lives here on Earth. Through Him, our hearts are set at ease, for He provides true warmth in life. He rescues us in times of peril and assists us in the hour of need. All power rests in His hands. Honour and glory will be the reward of any nation that looks to Him for support, while only disgrace and humiliation will be the lot of those who abandon Him. To know this is to hold the key to all the treasures in life. He who possesses this key gains all; he who loses it loses all.
