Mendenhall Glacier is one of the most beautiful and accessible glaciers in North America. It’s a half-mile wide, with ice up to 1,800 feet deep, it’s little wonder this is Juneau’s most popular destination. The Mendenhall Glacier has plenty of activities you can do yourself but several fun charter tours help you get the most out of your visit. Mendenhall Glacier is accessible all year and is great in all weather. It can be even more impressive on a cloudy afternoon as the ice turns a deep and mystical shade of blue.
Mendenhall Glacier is about 12 miles north of Juneau, and five miles north of the Juneau International Airport. From the Juneau Public Library, bus route 3 can take you to the base of the West Glacier Trail.
