Iceland is awe-inspiring at any time of year. Massive glaciers and lava caves, volcanoes, geothermal wonders. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Add to this the thrill of hunting for a mesmerizing display of northern lights undulating across the arctic winter sky. You have to see it to believe it—we keep our fingers crossed for clear night skies giving way to those dancing lights. Embrace the chill in the air and the crunch of ice or snow underfoot and be rewarded with the wonders of Iceland’s winter majesty.
Though many of you have joined us for our summer Iceland adventure on the world famous Laugavegur Trek, winter in Iceland is a unique experience. Each day will expose you to a new aspect of adventure and culture in Iceland. From riding an Icelandic Horse in the shadow of a volcano, speeding through old lava fields like the astronauts of the Apollo program, and exploring a tunnel created by flowing lava, this winter adventure will have you telling stories for years to come!
We know that viewing the Northern Lights is on most people’s bucket lists so we’ve planned this trip to provide an opportunity to enjoy this truly magical display nearly every night of our trip. Long nights and short days, combined with a location in the high northern latitudes, provide ideal conditions for taking in the Northern Lights. In fact Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital city! Worried about the cold? Don’t be, in fact NYC and Boston experience colder winters than Reykjavik, plus you’ll have ample opportunity to enjoy geothermal pools and hot springs on this adventure.
