Alhamdulillah (الحمد لله) is an Arabic expression that means “Praise be to Allah”. Alhamdulillah is used by Muslims to thank Allah (God) for His blessings. The blessings of Allah are innumerable. We should not try to find a reason to thank Allah, but we should be grateful and continue to thank Allah for all we have said “Alhamdulillah”. Note that if we remember Allah, Allah will remember us. So continue to thank and remember Allah. Allah hears and listens. Allah says:
“Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Verily, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, but the remembrance of Allah is greater.” (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45)
Alhamdulillah, Subhanallah and Allahu-Akbar are short but powerful prayers that are recited by Muslims to show their gratitude towards Allah. Alhamdulillah is a very short prayer that is repeated as devotional acts praising Allah. This is known as dhikr (zikir). The exact meaning of Alhamdulillah means “Praise be to Allah”. Saying Alhamdulillah with a thousand pains in the chest is an example of your deep faith in Allah. Allah says:
“Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:152)
Always say ‘Alhamdulillah’ even if your heart does not feel like that, it works like a silent prayer. We as Muslims should always be thankful to Almighty Allah for all the blessings that are given by Him. He is the Creator of this world alone and also He is The Most Merciful for all His humankind. Allah’s blessings are countless. We should not try to find a reason to thank Allah but we should be grateful and keep thanking Allah for everything. Allah says:
“Then I will certainly come to them from before them and from behind them, and from the right-hand side and the left-hand side, and You (Allah) shall not find most of them thankful.” (Surah Al-Araf 7:17)
No matter what we are going through in life. There is always something to be grateful for and praise Allah by saying Alhamdulillah. Allah constantly reminds us in the Qur’an to reflect and ponder over His blessings and creation. We Muslims are naturally meant to be a people of reflection and appreciation. Alhamdulillah is a phrase used by Muslims to thank Allah for all His blessings.
Alhamdulillah is the key to attracting abundance, prosperity, peace, and success in one’s life:
- Alhamdulillah that Allah turn life into happiness and prosperity
- Alhamdulillah for helping me to follow today and always
- Alhamdulillah, no matter what happens God is with me
- Alhamdulillah that Allah has saved me from every evil
- Alhamdulillah for the bonuses, He has given us
- Alhamdulillah in all the circumstances I have
- Alhamdulillah for his mercy and forgiveness
- Allah is very merciful and indulgent
- Alhamdulillah for a healthy life
- Alhamdulillah for all that I have

- Alhamdulillah for every breath, we take
- Alhamdulillah! for closer to you, oh Allah
- Alhamdulillah foresee the things of the world
- Alhamdulillah for hidden and apparent blessing
- Alhamdulillah for me notice a significant change
- Alhamdulillah for helping me to become righteous
- Alhamdulillah for bringing me out into the darkness
- Alhamdulillah, Allah has given us more than we expected
- Alhamdulillah for the trials that brought you back to Allah
Allah has given us so much to be grateful, say Alhamdulillah for the blessings of Allah. Since Alhamdulillah is a prayer used by Muslims to show gratitude towards Allah it can be said at any time. It’s beneficial to remember Allah multiple times a day and to recite these words, there’s no harm in doing so. Generally, it’s used to show appreciation whenever something good happens. Allah says:
“O you who believe! Consciously revere Allah and let look every soul what it has sent forth for tomorrow, and consciously revere Allah. Indeed, Allah (is) All-Aware of what you do.” (Surah Al-Hashr 59:18)
Alhumdulillah for everything. Be conscious and deliberate in thanking Allah, Islam is a religion where the intention is important. It’s a simple act that is required when things tend to go our way, to show gratitude to him. In a way, this also keeps your ego controlled and allows you to remain humble. Allah has given us so much to be grateful, Say Alhamdulillah for the blessings of Allah. Allah says:
“Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful.” (Surah Al-Insan 76:3)
Say Alhamdulillah for every day, not because you have another chance to live but because you have another chance to make sujood. No matter what hardships you’re facing, Never lose faith in Allah says Alhamdulillah. Allah is with the side of believers. Always keep the words in mind, Alhamdulillah, Astagfirullah. Subhan Allah, Allahu Akbar, the illah ila allah and live near Allah. And Alhamdulillah for everything. Allah says:
“Remember your Lord in yourselves with humility and in private without announcing it in the mornings and evenings, and do not be among the heedless.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:205)
Gratitude to Allah is a way of life for Muslims. As Muslims, we are perpetually optimistic by faith and always looking for ways to praise and thank Allah for all His blessings. Regardless of the situation is good or seemingly “bad”. This is because for a Muslim ultimate wisdom belongs only to Allah. And so if something seemingly “bad” happens. To a Muslim, it is always good because ultimately Allah knows best. And Allah will never intend bad for His believers.
Allah Almighty says in The Holy Quran:
- “And Allah loves the steadfast.” (Quran 3:146)
- “And Allah loves the doers of good.” (Quran 3:134)
- “If you are grateful, I will give you more.” (Quran 14:7)
- ” If you are grateful, He is pleased with you…” (Quran 39:7)
- “… and be grateful to All? h, if it is Him you worship.” (Quran 2:172)
- “Even then We did forgive you; there was a chance for you to be grateful.” (Quran 52)
- “And remember! Your Lord caused to be declared: If you are grateful, I will add more unto you.” (Quran, 14:5-7)
We need to remind ourselves that if it were not for Allah, we would have nothing and we would be lost. As a Muslim, one should consciously make it a habit to say “Alhamdulillah” at every stage in life – be it ease or hardship. The real test of a believer is when Allah bestows him with a hardship and the believer, despite his/her tough circumstances, has patience and says “Alhamdulillah”, surrendering himself/herself to the perfect Will of Allah. Allah says:
“For surely if it was not for the grace of God on you and His mercy, you would have been among the losers.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:2:64)
Allah asks us to turn to Him and to ask for anything we want. Allah awaits us to call on to grant our wishes. However, the one thing Allah asks for in return is for His blessings bestowed upon him. As humans, when we want something we pray to Allah day and night, asking Him to grant it to us and if we end up getting it, we forget the one who granted it to us in the first place. Allah says:
“Their call therein will be Glory to you, O Allah. And their greeting therein will be peace. The close of their request will be: Allah praises are due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.” (Surat Yunus 10:10)
We should consciously thank Allah from the smallest of things to the biggest of things. We should always say “Alhamdulillah” and praise the one who made it possible for us. It is Allah’s mercy if we find ourselves being saved from calamities and difficulties in life, it is not our own doing. Allah loves those who turn to Him and praise him and in turn, Allah gives us even more. Allah says:
“Say: All praise is due to Allah, who was not taken a son, nor does He have a partner in the dominion, and who needs no protection from weakness, so glorify Him greatly.” (Surat Al-Isra 17:111)
Be mindful of Allah’s blessings and look at those who are not as fortunate as yourself, it puts things into perspective and helps one realize how merciful and kind Allah has been to us and how ungrateful we can be. Say Alhamdulillah for it is an excellent expression of sincerest praise to the Almighty. Even if we spend all day, every day in praise and gratitude, it would still not be enough. Allah says:
“Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Verily, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, but the remembrance of Allah is greater.” (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45)
Alhamdulillah teaches a believer to be grateful in all turns and phases of life, be it good or bad. All thanks to Allah for taking me out from the shade of darkness to the shade of light. Say Alhamdulillah when you sit with your family. Gratitude is the foundation of a life of contentment and happiness. If you are grateful to Allah, He will increase your blessings and rewards and give you even more than what you ask for, that is the beauty of our Allah.
