Allah alone is worthy that man should worship, serve and obey Him; He alone can make or mar destinies; a man should invoke Him alone and have trust in Him alone. He alone can enjoin things and forbid things; man is under obligation to obey Him and refrain from what He forbids. He sees everything and hears everything; not to speak of any act of man, even his motives and intentions with which he has done an act, are not hidden from Him. Allah says:
”Whoever brings good, he shall have better than it, and whoever brings evil, those who do evil shall not be rewarded (for) aught except what they did.” (Surah Qasas 27:84)
Faith is believing in the basic principles and acting according to the principles of the righteous. The mere knowledge and belief of something are not enough for success unless there is an act of faith. Human is in sheer loss and only those people are an exception from the loss who are characterised by four qualities. Good deeds are preceded everywhere by Faith, Allah says:
وَاتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِن كِتَابِ رَبِّكَ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَلَن تَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا
”And recite what has been revealed to you of the Book (of) your Lord. None can change His Words and never you will find besides Him a refuge.” (Surah Kahf 18: 27)
Faith provides a firm basis for morality and character, upon which can be built the edifice of pure life, whereas the truth is that without such Faith, the life of man, however beautiful and pleasing outwardly, is like a ship without an anchor, which is at the mercy of the waves wherever they may take it. According to the Quran, no act can be a good act unless it is based on Faith and is performed in obedience to the guidance given by Allah and His Messenger.
Here are some good deeds you need to implement into your life:
- Good deeds serve as a divine guard against the trials

- Good deeds follow up a bad deed with a good one

Faith is reliable and beneficial, the sincerity of which is proved by man’s own act and deed, otherwise Faith without righteous deeds would be a false claim refuted by the man himself when in spite of this claim he follows a way opposed to the way taught by Allah and His Messenger. The relationship between Faith and righteous deed is of the seed and the tree Unless the seed is sown in the soil no tree can grow out of it. Allah says:
“And Allah increases those who accept guidance, (in) guidance. And the everlasting good deeds (are) better near your Lord (for) reward and better (for) return.” (Surah Maryam 19:76)
Good and bad deeds are differentiated by their essence; good deeds are good by their essence, and bad deeds are bad by their essence. Honesty, virtue, doing good, helping others, and so forth are good by their essence and lying, stealing, and oppression are bad by their essence. The Qurān affirms in many verses the principle of non-discrimination among people in rewarding good deeds and punishing evil deeds – which was mentioned in the above rational proof.
Here are some good deeds that have the same reward as Hajj:
- Going to the masjid for congregational prayer
- Remembering Allah from Fajr to sunrise
- Performing Friday prayer
- Performing Eid prayer
- Being good to your parents
- Learning and teaching in the masjid
- Fulfilling the needs of your Muslim brother or sister
God has an equal relation to all existent beings, there remains no reason for a good deed to be accepted by one person and not by another. So justice demands that God reward all those who do good whether Muslims or non-Muslims in the same way. And even more certainly, if a person believes in God and does good deeds, but does not recognize His Messengers and thus does not have a relationship of familiarity and covenant of friendship with them.
Here are some of the verses in this regard Allah says:
- “Lower your voice and talk moderately.” (Quran 31:19)
- “Don’t let hatred cause you to be unjust.” (Quran 6:108)
- “..If you are thankful, I will give you more ..” (Quran 14:7)
- “Don’t ask too many favours from people.” (Quran 2:273)
- “And establish worship for My Remembrance.” (Quran 20:14)
- “Preach to others in a good and wise manner.” (Quran 16:125)
- “Whosoever does a good deed, it is for his self…’‘ (Quran 45:15)
- “And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.” (Quran 3:86).
Islam has declared man’s salvation based on these two things, namely, faith and action (good deeds, works), but sadly, the faith is considered more than that of the righteous works, even though they are both indispensables. Practically both are important, the only difference is that faith is the basis and the righteous is the wall or pillar built on the faith. Just as a building cannot stand without a foundation, it cannot stand without a wall or pillar.
Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead:
- Faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless
- Faith and his actions worked together, our actions made oue faith complete
- Faith and good deed to be accepted by God on the day of Judgement
- Faith without good deeds is useless, show faith and good deeds
- God count us with good deeds and faith in all fields
- Belief is an abstract or hidden notion but deeds are seen
- We are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone
- Good deeds help us to grow sustaining our faith in all kind of situations
- Good deeds comes after belief and deeds are judged according to intention
Good deeds are many in Islam, and some are as simple as planting a tree, watering a garden, visiting an ill person, sharing food, feeding the hungry, or clearing a path/road of an obstacle. These small kind act carries great reward if done with correct belief. Even a smile to a stranger is a good deed and counted before God. Allah says:
“And those who strive for Us, We will surely, guide them (to) Our ways. And indeed, Allah surely (is) with the good-doers.” (Surah Al-Ankabut, 29:69)
Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The spirit that can ensure the security of society against moral degeneration and decay. If a society becomes devoid of this spirit, it cannot remain secure from loss, and eventually, even those people also are affected by the loss, who might in their own way by adhering to the truth, but were insensitive to the violation of the truth in their society. Allah says:
“Indeed, this, the Quran, guides to that which (is) most straight and gives glad tidings to the believers – those who do the righteous deeds, that for them (is) a reward great.” (Surah Al-Isra` 17:9)
Every individual in this society must feel his responsibility not to let society become degenerate. Thus, all its members are duty-bound to exhort one another to truth and to patience. Truth is the antonym of falsehood, and generally, it is used with two meanings. A correct and right thing which is in accordance with justice and truth, whether it relates to belief and faith. May Allah ease our task. Keep searching for truth and guidance.
